Strategic Plan checklist and planner

We are forever hearing about the importance of Strategic Planning but from experience most business owners don't have the time to get involved and even if they could make the time they would struggle with finding the right place to start. How do I know, I was one of them and in my early business life was too caught up in the day to day running of the business to take time out to focus on the strategy. With the value of hindsight, I can say this was a mistake and had I the knowledge then that I have now I would have done it completely differently.


Of course the penny did drop and I did eventually make the time and the improvement in the business was phenomenal. Once you embrace the mindset of Strategic Planning the business takes on a new impetus and more importantly you are much more in control of it rather than it controlling you. Your decision making is based on live information and is proactive rather than reactive. You are not at the coalface any more but standing back looking at it with more discerning eyes.


So what do you need to make the transition? The first thing to do is decide that you will make the change and then start working through the business in a logical way. I have included a check list and a planner built into one document to help you start the process. You do not have to do everything at one time, it can be spread over the course of a year but at least you can track your progress and tick off each section as it is completed.
